Maria Sheets

Maria Sheets is a contemporary American stained glass artist whose kiln-fired painted glass portraits give physical form to women whose lives were too often erased from history. Working across multiple panels per piece, Sheets builds her subjects from layers of pigment fired into the glass — a slow, demanding process that produces images of remarkable depth and presence.

Her ongoing portrait series at The Glass Gallery honors activists, anarchists, and revolutionary thinkers — including Louise Michel, Lucy Parsons, Voltarine DeCleyre, and Alexandra David-Néel. She has also collaborated with Judy Chicago and Scottish Stained Glass on contemporary works exhibited here.
