The Collection
Antique Stained Glass
The Glass Gallery's antique stained glass collection brings together Victorian and Scottish works rescued from churches and estates across the United Kingdom. Most of these panels were created between the 1880s and the early 1900s, during the high point of Glasgow's stained glass tradition.
Many pieces were originally installed in Ibrox Parish Church, Glasgow, and demonstrate the painterly Scottish ecclesiastical tradition: hand-painted figures, neo-classical personifications of virtues, and the plating technique that gave Victorian stained glass its remarkable depth of color.
